imac interface - ?firewire, ?usb

Sorry for the tedious question, but I'm just not up with the technology like I used to be.

I have "upgraded" to a 2007 iMac (don't laugh, this is what happens in a studio full of old synths and drum machines, time goes by...) and my MOTU 828 FW interface is trying to die.
(Actually, it has been trying to die for years, but I squeezed some more use out of it by re-soldering all the regulators in the thing... don't go there).

Anyhoo, what do people recommend? I hear good things about RME. My ears and my music aren't in the rarefied elite, so "audiophile" quality probably isn't needed - reliability is, however.

cheers
Adam

RME is very good for the money. Excellent drivers and support.

I had a FF800 for years, excellent results.

Ps I had a motu before that which was horrible sounding.

I have an RME UFX, which is both firewire and USB.
I have been very happy with it.

Thanks people, these are the units I've been looking at.
Mark the FF800 looks incredibly capable - may I ask what you are using now?
No longer available new, but there is a 2nd hand unit on eBay.

Had RME UCX for a few years, sounded very good, very very stable. Used it firewire and usb

Now have MOTU 16a, sounds better (IMHO) and is stable.. been using it for I dunno, a year nearly? using it thunderbolt.

cheers

Wow Wiz, that's an impressive unit. Prob a bit out of my price range. Do you know if you can you use a FW to TB adapter if you're on an older computer?

Hey Adam
I'm using a lynx aurora now, PCIe.

Although the FF800 is no longer made it's still a Fine sounding piece of kit and would do everything you need by the sound of it.
