Demo-ing gear from dealers - deposit, shipping etc..

Hi guys.
I'm just wondering what the usual drill is for demo-ing new gear from non-local dealers, in terms of down-payment, shipping etc..
I am wanting to demo a piece of gear (about $2.5K worth) from an interstate dealer and they're asking for $2000 security deposit (which, I guess is fair enough..?), me paying round trip shipping and a scan of my photo ID.
Is this how things usually work? Of course, I would still need to research info on the dealer themselves, as they're fairly new (at least to me).
Thanks for any help/input.

Cheers
S

Thanks Andy..
I didn't really ask around if anyone had it, as I thought it would be pretty rare, but you're right..you never know...
It's a Heritage Audio DMA 73.

Cheers

If its heritage gear i am presuming soundtown in perth?

If so, i go there often and george who owns/runs it is the greatest guy.

I would vouch for him a million times over, helps me often at no charge for lots of stuff,
As well as the only place i buy gear.
