Hi all. I recently tracked a young very talented girl on her debut EP through a geffell um91.s (through a 737) and absolutely love the sound.

I've used a few tube mic's over the years and own a K2, which I haven't used in years (great room mic though), I love the sound of a 67 and I loved the sound of the geffell, So I guess I'm asking for some recommendations on a modern NON hyped tube mic with decent noise specs.

The mic's ive used and liked are the The AT 4060 although i prefer the option of multy pattern. The Rode Classic is a worthy contender. Also the Miktek CV4, which a client of mine had and I just used recently is worth a listen.

Yea I've used the Classic, good mic, but not really my thing...

I recently got an ADK Z-Mod 251 and it is amazing.

I reckon I've reviewed about a dozen modern condensers over the last 10 years for a mag that shall remain nameless here. To cut a long story short, I sold all my other modern tube mics and bought a Soyuz 017 after recording with it for about a month.
These are a Russian made mic with amazing build quality based on various Neumann designs but not an exact clone of any. Seems like me and Nigel Goodrich are the only ones spreading the word about these things but they seriously smoke every other modern mic I've used including some big name models and also some reputable vintage ones.
Not cheap but you get what you pay for - this thing is all over every record I make now and the tonal balance on vocals, acoustic instruments and even things like guitar amps and drum rooms etc is a game changer for me.

Yet to see one come up for sale second hand, that's usually a pretty good indicator.

Excuse me for blabbering but I do get excited about this mic and I want people to know about it as there's so much hunger out there for this exact thing but no-one else seems to talk about it.

Regardless of what you end up buying, good luck with your microphonic journey!

I have used mojave M200's I give them 2 massive thumbs up,

I am not sure if there is an Aussie distributor though.

A lot of online reviews seem to compare them to a u67, I am not sure as I have never compared the 2.

just a thought.

I used to own a MA200 and the SD MA100

Mixmasters was distributing them .. back then.. probably still are...

Yea these get a very good rap across the board.

Anyone have any thoughts on Peluso mics?

I've used one on a session and was rather underwhelmed..
