Hi All
I am in the process of getting all my gear fixed up and restored, the latest is my Binson mid/late 60's all tube 4 channel pre amp, it is part of a PA.
Now the Pre amp and power amp sound amazing (power amp has just gone to the tech) but the question I have is, all the mic inputs and the 2 outputs are quarter inch unbalanced and I was wondering what is the absolute best way to convert at least one input and one of the outputs to modern balanced XLR.
I do not want to MOD the unit in anyway, it has to stay original.
I know you can get those XLR plug devices and I have one somewhere, but is there a better option and that will be at the optimum impedance for the vintage.
Ps I'm not that fussed about using phantom power either, it would be more for dynamics mics.
Also this preamp is an amazing guitar DI.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated

You could build a little interface using JLM kits. I think a 'Go Between' kit on the input, and a regurgitator or dingo/dingo pup kit on the output would do it. That would add phantom and pad and handy features too.

You could always add a transformer I/o box to your kit so that you don’t alter the Vinson at all but make a stand-alone box with mic step up transformer and unbalanced-balanced line output transformer with the requisite connectors.

Re: Binson 4 channel tube pre amp
why do you need to balance it in and out anyway.
correctly wired leads will do everything you need, especially as you don't want to modify it
