7.1 Monitoring conundrum.

Postby smash » Wed Nov 20, 2019 12:44 pm

Hey All,

Wondering if someone has a particularly useful product recommendation for me.

I may need to install some 7.1 speakers into a newly purchased edit room for a new client.

I had planned to go AES out of the video hardware into the individual speakers, and use the Genelec GLM monitor controller to act as a monitor control for all the speakers. Looking at an all Genelec speaker system because reasons.

This will work fine for the single source direct from the computer, however, won't really work if we want to use a second source - i.e. plug a laptop or an iPhone in to listen to music while working.

Is there a simple way to inject an additional signal into the main L+R AES path, (like an AES + ANALOGUE -> AES switcher) that doesn't have any latency issues?

Or, do I need to just suck it up and buy a full 7.1 monitor controller? It just seems excessive when I'm essentially just wanting to also listen to an iPhone...

Thanks.
