Step Down Transformers

Postby Sean » Fri Sep 16, 2005 8:38 pm

Hi all,
I've got a nice ol' '65 Ampeg Gemini I guitar amp sitting here but it runs at 117V 60Hz, and stepdown transformers won't change the frequency from 50Hz.
Does anyone know what damage could be done if any by running this at 50Hz or even better, know a way around it?

Cheers,
Sean.

A good battery backup UPS will give you 50hz, or you could replace the power supply, both options would be bloody pricey I guess.

50 or 60 Hz won't really be much of a problem. You just need to step the mains down to 115V. It is important to get the right power ( or current ) rated transformer. If your amp is rated at 100Watts I'd go for a 200watt plus transformer.
