Okay last time we had a thread like this it got really interesting..

put on your best set of ears! i like to listen to various recordings and try and figure out what gear they used to get the sound, particularly vocals, and then try and find out thru the net or liner notes etc...

one that has really got me wondering at the moment is the Brooke Fraser CD "what to do with daylight"

I've chopped up 3 of the songs with really prominent vocals, (for educational purposes only of course!) to make 2 mins for you to have a listen and tell us what you think they've done to get the sound. To my ears its quite dry and been kicked around quite a bit with an EQ, they stand out massively in my car, sound a little better on the studio monitors...

would love to hear what you all think of them...

Well, it was recorded at Beech House in Nashville, so the desk is their 70's Sphere Eclipse (a mere 28 channels, crikey my church mixer almost has that!) and likely recorded onto their JH16 tape mutlitrack.

Mic, a U87? Something pretty standard I'm guessing. The piano is a Yammie C3 (that's website info, not my ears). A bit of 12kHz of the onboard EQ for air - its going to tape anyway so you've got the natural compression thing goin' on.
