Studio Velocity ribbon mic

Postby Gavin » Tue May 31, 2005 6:14 pm

A friend just arrived with a really old looking ribbon mic. It is called a Studio Velocity model R47 and it's imp. is rated at 50-178. We plugged it in and it actually works, though it is very dull sounding.
Is it worth getting anyone to have a look at this thing as it is looks like it has not had a service for a long, long time, or should it continue it's life as a stage prop? (cool looking prop at that!)

Thanks
Gavin

It may sound dull because of an impedance mismatch with the pre amp you are using. For this reason i use my old Byer 77's for testing ribbon mics.
