Hi All
I need to retrospectively apply for a Council Planning Permit. They want me to provide an acoustic report to address clause 52.43 (Live Music and Entertainment Noise) of the Yarra Planning Scheme because there are residential dwellings within 50m of the building. The rooms are soundproofed. The building doesn't leak noise. In 3 years there has never been a complaint. However, the council needs to have this proven with an acoustic report. Some quotes have been enormous. Any suggestions on Acousticians in Melbourne that may be able to provide "studio friendly" quotes, as opposed to venue oriented quotes. Any help appreciated.

Re: Acoustic Report for Council Planning Permit - Melbourne
Its a very simple process - I had to do exactly this for Sydney City Council a few years ago.
All that was needed was to play frequencies in studio at a certain level, and measure the level outside.
But it had to be an acoustician to write the report for council
From memory - cost me $180 all up.
Its under an hours work - and a little time to write the report.
You can generate the tone for the measurements - then they wont need to bring any playback system, and then they measure inside and out with a meter. Done.
Good luck - hope you find someone.

hi fraser
yes echoing what chris says... its pretty straight forward, and (at least in NSW) there is no qualification needed, you just need to be a "suitable person" which your CV should prove..
you should be able to get the requirements from the council DA website
and go from there!

Thanks so much for your feedback and advice fellas.
Very much appreciated. It more or less echo's some advice I received from an acoustician yesterday.
I feel I may have just saved a couple of grand!
