cymbal at 1000 frames a second.

Let's talk about kits and mics, new and old. What are you using? What do you want? What's the difference?

I had no idea they flexed that much, it's certainly not visible to the naked eye. Well, my naked eyes anyway.

how do you record sounds in slow motion like they did in that movie. my moderate interest turned into fascination as soon as they started dropping the light bulb, ceramic duck and the china glass. awesome stuff, be great for sound design! the china glass sounded like a church bell.

imagine the possibilities of catching sounds people cant even hear in real life. An untapped pallette of colours to choose from!

(please dont tell me they just did some sound design foley work on the slow motion film, lol)

Just slow it down?

If I turn off the unit my sound card is clocked from it plays everything back at 7k, no idea why, everything sounds menacing at that speed!

Yeah, Sound is a little easier than video - record at a high sample rate --> slow down. Voila.

For video you need to be filming at a lot more than the normal 24/25 frames a second for slow mo to look decent!

cool, i should try that!

it sounded like they distorted a lot of the samples too, like the preamp was peaking something crazy. cool, i muck around with some slo mo mojo....(yeah that didnt make sense)

It's probably just sound from the camera's built in mics. They tend to overload and clip pretty easily, especially for short sudden sounds as they use some auto-gain kinda thing, like the mics in old tape decks. I'm sure someone cleverer than I will know how that shit works..

if you are using protools a quick a dirty way of slowing things down is to hold shift down whilst pressing play. immediate half speed. you can also record at double speed by holding shift down whilst pressing record. Not particularly useful but often fun.
