Again, if you watch the videos I posted, apparently this is one of the things he apparently took a good deal of effort & time to get right... the inventor is a drummer, btw...

Whether it lives up to his claims in reality idk, but my brother-in-law is a drummer, & he is ordering one, so I guess I'll find out. However, the snare solo he does at the end of the above video does look very promising, and after reading a few reports on the forum, users seem quite positive.

I'm not a drummer, but I can have a reasonable bash.
And while I think the idea and concept is very cute and clever, I can't see how it would be very good for your technique. Playing a "real" instrument, whatever that may be, responds to you in a tactile way.

So, I am impressed with it...

It'll be great for the air drummers of the world - can you imagine how many times "in the air tonight" will be played???

I agree with the "calm down" comment.

Also, for those wanting a tactile interaction with an instrument - have you ever clapped? Ever clicked your fingers? Ever played calves? Castanets? They are all pretty tactile ways to make music in my opinion.

Just because it's different it doesn't mean it is wrong or unworthy.

If it works as it appears to I think it is great.

My point is - see it as a new instrument.

Just thought I would report back on our experiences with this bit of kit...

My bro-in-law ordered them, & he has been using them for silent practice quite successfully for a while now. He'd been using the stock sounds that came with the program, but the other night we decided to see if we could get it to trigger some of my various vst drum instruments. Happy to report, after a few misfires, we got it working really well.

We tried BFD3, but I think he preferred the response & sound of NI's Studio Drummer... here's a very brief clip my wife took of us jamming through my studio computer monitors with Studio Drummer & Scuffam Amps S-Gear inside Sonar X3: http://vimeo.com/108652656

Another night we tried running Steven Slate Drums 4, and he liked that even better.

Oh, & to answer some of the queries above...with the right interface settings, latency wasn't a problem at all. My bro-in-law tells me that, while it takes a bit of an alteration in technique, it's not at all difficult to adjust to, and the technique required is not detrimental to a normal drumming technique.
