Just wondering what people are using on Tom mics in the studio. To be honest I just use whats available, nothing has blown me away to date
I like 421's bet they take up too much real estate.
So at the moment I am using Sennheiser 604/904.
I read the other tom thread and there was mention of RE20, which would be cool to try if it wasnt for the real estate factor again.
Thanks in advance
Cheers Simon

Re: Tom mics?
Always come back to 421's.
The only alternatives I like are either big or expensive (U87, RE20).

I've always been happy with my Audiotechnica Pro25s.

Recently rediscovered the EV 468 on toms for real estate factor...
The sennheiser 904's are meant to be pretty good too.

Re: Tom mics?
As usual I'm left of centre.... current favourite is a pair of big head style ribbons as underheads - with the polar patterns at 90degrees to the drum i.e. facing across the skin and about 6" below the bottom skin. One mic captures the hanging toms / another captures the floor toms.
Ribbon overheads give me enough top skin.

421
or 609 if i want it "rocker"
or (this is the live guy in me) B98. they really "snap" and sometimes can be just what you need
