Live or studio?
Live I'd be tempted to just mic from underneath with a couple of dynamics in the shells.
They'll be loud and bright with (probably) lots of rimshots - quick transients and not much dynamic range.... so mics for high SPL.... to me they sound good in a bright, open space.....

ive only ever done them live, never in the studio
have always used an SM57 (or similar) underneath - at least a foot away (they are loud!)
they seem to cut through pretty much no matter what.
let us know how you go and if you discover anything interesting

I've only done them live, either a tom mic underneath (whatever you like for such things) or a condensor (or two?) overhead. Maybe both if you're excited!

If you are overdubbing, over the top with a bit of distance.
