after a few months of heavy production work on Death Cab for Cutie then Bon Iver... i have a quick stop in with Blues Fest, and then its actually off on tour to mix. taking Passenger (if you don't know him check out a live recording i did here: http://www.pedestrian.tv/music/videos/p ... 6.htm?done

touring a trio though...
I'm going to take a rack with my usual XL42 pre/EQ and BSS402 comp/de-esser for vocals - with B58
then thinking pair of DBX160 (my favourite) for drum buss.... and taking B91kick/ B98 toms/ Beyer 201 snare

should be a breeze....

what do you think I'm missing!?

Ten years on the road taught me that extra underwear, a toothbrush and a puzzle book come in handy.

you could take my dbx900 rack, couple of 903 (160 style) comps and aphex comps/limiters too.

or a sense of humour... I find thats imperative to enjoying tour lifestyle. oh and drinking chops help too.

I've sometimes found a good solid piece of willow is useful.

oh don't worry... been on plenty of tours
over a decade on the road, platinum FF on 3 airlines, and have had my house leased out for more than 3 years cause i stay in a hotel with "home" in sydney as it saves me money...
so well aware for the underwear/ sense of humour and so on and so forth.

just actually doing sound (and smaller venues) for the first time in a while so was wondering what people usually carry.
its looking like the rack will be

XL42
BSS 901
DBX 160
TC M1

will take a B87 for vocal, then into XL42 and BSS
JDI for acoustic and into XL42 and 160

rest of the band i will use house gear

and the M1 means i get a great reverb every night..

yeah?

Neat setup - do you have a patch bay too and just walk in with a 6RU road case tucked under your arm?

..... power -> patch -> patch -> go :-bd

not a patch bay
just looms
but with XLR/TRS options to cover different consoles

God bless you, I just couldn't do it any more. I spent from Feb 1987 until March 1995 on the road constantly, never being off the road for more than 2 weeks.

Now I get annoyed if I'm not home by 11.

Hi Gareth, I'm a young Perth local and hope to be back in town just in time to make it to the Fly By gig. Mind if I come by the desk and introduce myself, perhaps after the show when you've done all the hard work?

Hi chris
sure - come on up and say hi
FOH from an XL3 today... which is fine (they sound good) but the old "this console really wasn't built to do this job" problem comes up here and there. (busses??)
come say hi during the show mate... at the end of the gig I'm out the door (possibly before he's offstage last song) to make the last flight home
have the Fbi studio open day at GPHQ tomorrow and have to be there!
