live recording world is busy hey?
so busy that this week we have two 56ch MADI recordings going on
so i had to buy another machine.

got to say i love the joeco black box recorders (our analogue ones get used every week) but the ability to have 64ch of rock solid recording in one rack space on the MADI version.

that just rocks!

thanks to the guys on this forum that tried to help me out with another system this week. but i just had to spend the cash.

anyone else doing large track count live records?

actually this one of mine just went live today (from forthcoming live record)

I was very impressed by how that was for sounding for a live recording!

Hey Gareth, if the box is Madi, where is the Madi feed coming from?

I'd say from the live console.
Most Digico consoles have Madi, Midas have a Madi bridge, Digidesign have Madi cards, ect.
Its a quick and easy way to record a performance, perfect for virtual sound check,
but for third party recording purposes you are stuck with the "live" head amp gain, which sometimes
can be a pain in the PPM ;)

correct jason
from a digi console..

so - for cheap/ quick/ easy gigs - absolutely i can take an out from the house console and like you say live with their gain (or in some cases mine, if I'm the FOH guy)

but for a proper gig (like the way i do moshcam) i can put my own console in (either analogue ins with a usual split, or the sound craft with MADI in so i take a split from the box - depending on what the set up is and what the other consoles are)

FYI - my analogue jocoe units are in 4RU cases with 3x 8ch pre amps (so a totally self contained system)
this box is just another option. (especially for high track count)

one of the keys things with live recording is not getting in anyones road, and making no impact on the show itself.
sometimes you have to make some compromises (sharing someone else's gain) to do that (and meet someones budget)
