i have recently had the pleasure of doing a festival tour in japan (touring in japan is so awesome -lovely to be back)
the particular festival was sponsored by audio technica, so all mics supplied onstage where from them.
i could bring my own if required - but not being fussy was happy to try.
i was VERY impressed with the main vocal mic, an ATM98. sounded a lot like the heill mics.
great rejection especially, good for the quiet girl singers.
but now im trying to find one to demo at home, they dont seem to exist in australia.
anyone used them?
anyone have an in at audio-technica so i can find out?
seems strange to have a "japan only" microphone, though thats sort of how the internet is showing it..

Re: Audio Technica vocal mic
Looking at this reminds me how much I despise the Audio-Technica website as a resource.
I wondered if this was one of those occasions where a company uses a different model number in different regions (eg. Sennheiser's e606/e609) but nothing really looks bang on the specs of the ATM98:

I think the closest would be the AE4100:

Very close by the look of things, perhaps one or two minor things tailored(?) for the karaoke market. There are certainly some that swear by this series of mic, I haven't had a lot to do with them personally.
I would hitting up TAG with your enquiry surely they should be able to find out, perhaps they could supply a demo of an AE4100 in the mean time
