had the pleasure of mixing at newtown social club (the old sando - now run by the guys who have northcote social in melb)
great little room.
very nece new nexo PA and digico console
all very well done
bit of a shame about the corner mix position (bass heavy at the console!) but not a lot could have been done given the size/ layout.

great to see a GOOD sydney venue (and yes id much rather go there now that its not the horrible horrible sando set up)

Remember making the stage out of milk crates and ply around the bar in the old days?

Goodtimes :)

Ha, yes, I remember it was the support bands job to build the stage out of numbered ply sheets and milk crates.
There was also a traffic light db meter thing that would cut power to the P.A. if you went too loud. For a while we had a mixer that knew how to get around that...
Cheers,
Paul

what horrified you mark?
certainly a different place to what it was - but a great gig to have in the sydney "scene" (and pretty good food/ beer/ vibe in general in the downstairs bar)
i was most impressed to see someone INVESTING in a venue so as to actually draw crowds.

I've played there a couple of times now and been a few times as a punter. I reckon it's great and good to see a venue getting a new lease on life rather than closing :)

There's even backline you can hire at $20 a band. Amazing.

In two words... Yuppy and hipster...

It used to be grungy, rock n roll, in other words it had a vibe....

Now, it souless IMHO..

very different to the NSC in melbourne, which I've mixed at and indeed go to see live music.

On a positive note though, at least it's still a live venue.
