Hi jeep,
Would you consider swapping one of the modules for a valve comp?

I'm selling mine because I'm looking for a different sound. I have had around 8 guuitar amps in the past including Fender twin reverb and 2 JCM 800's.

Nothing wrong with them just a change thats all.

Infact if thet wern't 500 series id be interested in trading or buying myself the TG.

Hey JP
If you want you can borrow my API 3124 to compare with what you have. The 512 is exactly the same as the pres in the 3124.

Hey Jeep,

How do you like the Action? I've been pondering a tracking compressor and am having a hard time deciding between the action, 1176 & distressor.

the action goes alright! similar to an 1176 except not as flexible.
i actually sold it in order to buy a distressor a month or 2 ago..

if you can afford it, i'd go either the 1176 or the distressor.
if money is an issue, you'll be happy with the action

The Actions are nice compressors - sure, they arent an 1176, but they are similar..
If you want a relatively nice compressor for a reasonable price, then the Action will suffice Nath.
I have 2 in my lunchbox ;-)

Agree.

If you have the cash for an 1176 (or MC77) or a Distressor, go for those.

Hi guys
The Action is a bit of a one trick pony, very aggressive, good for drums. The MC77 (1176) is very versatile, good on anything.

I gotta agree here too..
I tracked some acoustic gtr a few weeks back using the action and it was quite assertive in the tracking..
If you are finding the Action too aggressive, cut back on the input a bit - should help..
However, there are some tricks I just found for ity posted on GS yesterday..
Will try and link or post up..

If you're looking for "transparent" compression in 500 format you should consider the Shadow Hills Mono Opto 500. I picked one up recently..... looooove it.

Cut & Pasted from GS -

If the bypass (top) toggle is in the "in" position;

"Link" compressor is on and 2 units are linked (if you have the Purple Sweet Ten rack)
"on" compressor circuit is engaged.
"off" no compression, GR meters no longer work but the in and out knobs allow you to drive the input and output for tone, without comprressing.
In and Out meters still work.

Check out the "off" trick. It's got some really sweet xformer color/distortion.

Stereo Linking
"Stereo linking is accomplished by cross connecting pins 3 & 6 on the edge connector. On the Purple Sweet Ten, there is a second output XLR that can be used to link two Actions. The link is accomplished using a XLR-F to XLR-F cable with pin 2 on one XLR-F connecting to pin 3 on the other XLR-F and vice versa. Plug in the cable, flip the front panel switch and you are linked. Non-Purple racks do not have an easy way to connect pins 3 and 6, and will need modification to link two Action units."
