DIY "Super high end" (sic) field recorder

I've been doing so much video stuff this year that I have had to learn a whole bunch about field recording.

Anyway this DIY vid was interesting. I'm not sure I'd agree that the Rode NT1a is "super high end", but the idea of combining the pre and the power supply was clever.
