hi fellas,

been a while since i posted in these parts.

i've got a phono preamp here, which has separate controls for 2 channels

Each channel has 1 gain pot, 1 LF control, 1 HF control.. all 3 are B100K pots, which from what i have read is just a Linear 100K pot.

so, my question, and reading it over makes it sound real dumb....
but...would I be able to replace all mono pots with a 100K Ohm Linear Dual pot like the one in this link?

im pretty sure i'll roger the job up...as simple as it is, but i wanted to know if there are any ill effects i can expect from doing something lie this...as im not really that exprienced...

oh, and obviousl i'll need to use some terminal pins + bend a few of the pots legs to make this work...and also keep in mind i'll just have the stereo pots on one side and just seal off the controls on the other side.
Ill also need to solder some wire that goes from the pots i plac on one side to the pots i remove on the other...

also,does pro equipment require anything beefier than a regular jaycar soldering iron for desoldering duties?

I think the answer is Yes.
But I do wonder why?

These are calibration trims. You tweak them whilst playing your reference tone LP using a level meter.

You can play them like level, bass and treble ... but why?

Where did you score the MTE phono pre?

hmm ok.

im not very experienced with vinyl, but i guess i started thinking i wanted to do this in the first place as the pots behave irratically, ie. a little nudge will make gain explode....etc

linking the trim pots sounds like a stupid idea now if they're meant for calibration.

i guess i should just try some isopropyl on the pots to see if the response smooths up, as i cant imagine doing any fine adjustments with this....

I was gifted these pre's by Alistair on this forum, i think i was asking about a good brand of phono pres many years back gotta love this place eh?

hi rob, thanks so much for chiming in. replacing trim pots is much easier!

i think i'll need a higher powered soldering iron!
