i'm hoping you're over your beer-over from friday nights courtesy slab!

i was just wondering if you've had a chance to bag up those meters and trannies for me yet?

ok i just sent out all the trannies and meters i promised
i had that many parcels i felt like the delivery guy at the post office, but thats what you get if you put things off...

for those that are getting sifam meters i have neglected to send you the little 10 Cent plastic tabs that make them simple to mount

this is because i cannot find the jar that has them all in !

they can be fudged without them but i will trip over that jar when i am not looking for it and send them out to those that still need them .

again sorry for the wait guys but everybody gets a bunch of extra stuff included in their parcel to make up for it !

meanwhile i am going north to tinaroo fishing for barra for a week

marks running the shop while i am out

if you dont get your parcel in a couple of days call him and get tracking numbers.

yeah - i've got my meters, and the balistics on them seem juicy juicy. but i'm currently trying to figure out the wiring for all those fabulous trannies.

OMFG there are some nice units there. mmmm, lets see what i can do with them.

Rick - those meters you sent me are now front and center in a little plywood box I made to fit in the middle of my desk. I've hung them off some spare outputs from my mixing desk, and they work a treat.

I'd put up some pics, but (a) I think we all know what a Vu meter looks like, and (b) I don't want to disclose how pisspoor my carpentry skills are! (oops, just did!)

Thanks mate

For those late in reading their AT, Rob has published a design for a VU buffer. Rob, we'll leave the question as to why you didn't publish that here first for later :-)

The bigger news is that Joe Malone has kits up and running before the ink is dry on the pages. We can now all use those nasty VU meters and get proper ballistics. Yea!

Saw it on Joe's site, but not in AT...think I'll have to read the thing properly!

Local source for Sifam and Anders VU Meters

www.rsaustralia.com and put "VU Meter" in the find field.

RS Components carry a number of Sifam and other VU meters to meet most budgets

note that the RS budget 'VU's" are non-rectified - you'd need to build a bridge!

I just remembered I have a cluster of 4 VUs supposedly from an API which I purchased from Peluso back when he was selling off parts on ebay.....prior to his mics taking off. All I need to do is find a use for them.......or to be precise, find time to make a use for them.

Chris (mfdu), did you ever determine a final cost for your SSL mixbuss comp?

Cheers, ChrisO

hi ausrock

the ssl mixbus - from memory the cost (not incl. case or meter) incl. torroidal power trannie and decent capacitors (and sample pack of THAT VCA's) was $200. say $250 to be safe? . . . all parts came from jaycar, and ii think i have a xls spreadsheet of item codes, if'n ya want it.

mine still isn't working how i want. maybe it's just too darn clean? (ongoing problem with make-up gain) but it's a real let-down after these fabbo opto and FET compressors i've built.
it needs some output iron. thats what i think. not keeping to the spirit of the SSL mixbus i know, but i'm pushing iron as a feature of my studio, so . . .

chris.

(did you get my little joke earlier? "build a bridge" oh ok, am i just working too hard?)
