power supplies, breadboards etc

Postby Wiz » Sat Jul 06, 2013 12:58 pm

Due to a shoulder problem, my playing is sidelined for up to a year...

So, I thought I might pass the time, by doing some DIY stuff.

First of all, I want to build very simple mic preamps.

I want to do things like, try different IC's out, different values of this and that, wire a transformer in here and there.

I dont want prebuilt kits, ( i have built those before JLM stuff) basically, its just going to be a little sideline, and I figuire I might learn a thing or two.

So I thought, I would need some sort of bench power supply, adjustable.

Breadboard etc

anyone got any suggestions, I went to my local Jaycar and got a catalogue and started reading...

If you have a bunch of this stuff you want to sell, I would be interested.

cheers

Wiz

( i already have things like multimeter, soldering iron etc)

I've bought a few bits from this online store from China. I've seen the same ones as on this site rebadged and sold for a lot more here in Oz

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!

:D

I know for some of you this will be ... a yawn....

But I gotta tell ya, I am pretty excited.

This is as minimum it can be for a mic preamp.

ACDC supply from JLM supplying +- 15VDC and a INA217 mic preamp with two 2K2 resitors strapped across the inputs
and a 100 ohm resistor across the gain.

I just recorded a vocal with it...

I couldnt be more tickled.

Now, I will start adding things to the circuit such as input protection diodes, and DC blocking caps.

Then the next stage is dc offset and balancing.

Then I wanna try input and output transformers.

and see at each stage what the changes in sound are like.

I also want to try different types of resistors and caps and see how they impact the sound.

How does it sound now I hear you ask?

Really clean. Noise floor is pretty damn usuable, I havent checked for DC offset or anything like that.

I couldnt stop giggling like a little kid 8)
