bipolar power supply

Postby Wiz » Sun Jul 14, 2013 1:42 pm

I am doing lots and lots of reading, waiting for some stuff to arrive so I can venture into the land of DIY preamps.

I am going to start by building (breadboarding) a preamp based around the INA217 op amp. Then the THAT 1510 and 1512 opamps.

Essentially I am going to build basic as possible, see what it sounds like, swap out cap types, see what it sounds like, add stuff, see what it sounds like.

Now my problem is, the bipolar +-15V DC supply I will need.

Does anyone have any recommendation, on getting from 240V AC to +- 15V DC , safely, with good quality and a reasonable price?

this is one I came up with

Oh, and do you think linear, or SMPS? (guessing linear)

cheers and thanks in advance

Wiz

Will you be adding in +48V phantom power as well?

I would recommend Joe Malone's kits at jlmaudio.com - look under power supply kits for the AC/DC. You then power it from a wall wart which provides isolation and step down from the 240V mains.

AC/DC or Powerstation.

Both can do bipolar. As well as +48v for phantom all at the same time.
