In my continuing quest to teach myself shit the hard way........

episode 9 Wiz and the Capsule

I ordered a cheap mic, a Recording Tools MC900 and a RK7 (supposedly M7 like capsule ) offadernintranet.

I have never changed a capsule before.

First of all when all the bits arrived, I set up the standard MC900 mic and recorded it.

Yep, sounds like shit. Spitty and crappy. Cool.

Then I replaced the capsule, was kinda fiddly, but I got it done. Never done that before, so that was interesting.

Fired it up.

Anticipation

It sounds slightly less spitty and shitty. :-B

So I then removed one of the two grills inside the mic head.

It sounds slightly less spitty and shitty and a touch more open

whaddaya know, a 90 dollar capsule cant turn a 120 dollar mic into a great mic.

It can turn it into something slightly less crappy and still completely unusable.

I am not daunted though.

I intened to build the schoeps based circuit from the ground up and see If I can make something I can record with.
