Has anyone here ordered any thing from this rec pro audio website?

I'm thinking about buying the pultec. Any thoughts?

Re: Rec pro audio pultec
If you are considering a kit, here is an alternative and quite a bit cheaper;

Just over $900

Thanks for the link Michael that's temping but do you think it's worth the extra 600 for a hand wired?

Re: Rec pro audio pultec
I really couldn't comment without hearing them side by side, the iron is going to have a lot to do with the sound, both of which do not have original iron. I notice that the Rec Pro unit has a 6X4 tube rectifier, the audio maintenance one doesn't, so the Rec Pro may be considered a little closer in theory to the original being PTP with the 6X4.
I have an original, so build one and we'll do an A/B comparison, see how they compare.

Thanks Michael I will let you know when I have built one and would love to AB them.

Re: Rec pro audio pultec
I think they will probably sound a little different...the point to point is the original design, where as the AM pultec is his version (ie no interstage transformer).

Um, think you're wrong there, the AM unit does have an interstage transformer, a 20K:80K VTB2424 Carnhill. The schematic is in the build instructions

GPultec has no interstage. But still sound fantastic.

Re: Rec pro audio pultec
Very interested to see what you decide to do here.
I'm currently planning a stereo point to point extended Pultec.
Probably not going to use a valve rectifier, but otherwise I'm planning on using the same circuit as the Rec Pro Pultec, with a few extra frequency points. I'm also tossing up between adding the MEQ-5 filter in there as well, but real estate and inductor costs may stop that plan!

I've built a stereo SS pultec with the enhanced pultec pcb that's around and JLM dingo boards. I've tried a few opamps, JLM 99V, OPA2604, Pickstone and had planned on trying an output transformer but it already sounds great. Tube or SS it's a great sounding circuit.

Sounds cool Barney.
Out of interest, how does it compare to the massive passive as a buss EQ?
I'm not naive enough to think I'll anywhere near the precision of a MP, but I am thinking with the right frequencies I could still have that ability to push the top and bottom end pretty hard without any harshness or artifacts.
