DIY neve clone- help please

Postby andygriffiths » Fri Jan 17, 2014 8:24 am

Ok, so I'd like to build a 2ch neve pre amp. I have looked at the EZ1073 but I don't really want another outboard eq. So I'm thinking a JLM mirco 1290 unit or if possible a seventh circle audio n72. The only thing with the SCA is it is a little top high to fit in a 1ur case. Now with the JLM unit I'm not sure which carnhill transformers I would need to run with it. So if anyone has any experience with any of these units or can offer another option that would be great.

you could check out these guys;

http://soundskulptor.com/

They do some awesome sounding modules, I have a bunch of the 500 series modules, but they also do the 1ru x 4 module thing, which might work for you. Reasonably priced and the kits come with fantastic instructions of how to build and everything is in there, nothing else to buy. Support is also great if you screw something up.

Hey Andy,

I built 4x EZ1290 (no EQ) into a 2ru with external power supply. I reckon you could easily fit 2 units into a 1ru with internal power supply.

Audio maintenance has all the Carnhill transformers, including some low height versions- http://www.audiomaintenance.com/

Love the preamps, sound big and fat and thick. Didn't love them until I added a trim control though. Fantastic distortion too.

Hi guys,

Thanks for that. Wiz I have already emailed joe. Alister I have emailed Martin about the EZ1290 but am waiting for a reply. Anyway it won't happen till a little later in the year as I have drip la2, CLX160 & a custom telecaster to finish. Just thought I'd see what's out there

Hey Alister, I have emailed Martin with no response. Did you have any issues like this when you were getting your ez1290 PCB's?
