Soldering Iron Purchase Advice?

Hi guys,

So I guess I'll have to start looking at getting a new iron soonish, looking for something temp adjustable (digital would be good), decent quality and about 2-300 ish in cost.

I've narrowed it down to these two which look good;

Any recommendations, advice or opinions? :)

considering they are about the same price, I'd go with the Weller, being a very reputable brand, never heard of the Jaycar one. Get yourself a few different size tips while you are at it.

That Weller is good from my experience - easy choice.

But TBH I've done a load of soldering with a crappy jaycar $20 one that I've had for about 10 years!

Enjoy.

Rhino Tools to some pretty good ones and well priced.
I have a desoldering station from them. Works well

I've got one of those Rhino ones. It's great, no complaints at all.
Buy spare tips from them though, they are a non standard size!

thanks guys, that helps heaps :)

Actually I've been using an old Weller so I'm already kinda used to the brand - I'll probably go with that.

haha yes Mike, know exactly what you mean - I've always been spending money on other (more interesting) stuff and putting this off but it will have to happen, planning on working on some of my old gear with fragile boards.

Ditto on that.

I've been through a million Hakkos / Wellers and these cheap ones from Rhino actually hold up really well.
