Space Echo Service in Sydney?

Postby ishumusic » Tue Apr 08, 2014 5:22 pm

Hi guys

Looking for someone local in Sydney to service my RE501 Space Echo. Was working fine until one day the capstan stopped moving. Pinch roller and other bearings all spinning freely.

Any recommendations for someone to repair it in Sydney? Considering purchasing a motor rebuild kit from the following link, but scared I might mess it up...and the guy selling the kit is on Central Coast and I'd prefer someone closer.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Roland-Space ... bb1&_uhb=1

Any leads would be most appreciated.

Cheers
Gary.

Hey Gary

Check out these guys http://www.echofix.com
They are also the guys selling on the link you posted.
I have an RE-301 that I've been considering sending in for a service and spotted these guys a while ago.

Cheers

I've bought parts from EchoFix (I think his name is Shane?). Great service, nice guy. I wouldn't hesitate to send Space Echos to him for repair.

I just got parts for mine from Echofix and they are excellent. I am going to order a motor top bearing next week and install it, I forgot to get one when I ordered the new rollers and tapes. Definitely the place to get parts for Space Echoes. Often the top bearing fails if people get alcohol down the shaft accidentally when cleaning, it washes the lubricant out of the bearing. I think that it's also time to test some of the capacitors in the RE series machines, they would be getting pretty old by now. I would not be surprised of the electrolytics in those machines are well up above their rated values.

Check the motor fuse also -it's fuse F3. Maybe it has popped, don't replace it with a larger value though, if there is a motor or switching transistor fault you will damage the transformer so use the exact same rated fuse if you need to replace it.

I keep thinking I should overhaul my 501, at least recap, but mine's all in Japanese!

Thanks for the info everyone. Checked that fuse and it seems fine.
I had already spoken to Shane at Echofix, but I was hoping for someone closer to Sydney...but it seems that's the only choice.

Cheers
