A visit to WLW in Cinncinati At one time the biggest commercial AM station in the US. In 1932 they built a 500 Kilowatt(that's 1/2 a megawatt) AM transmitter. It took more than a dozen people simultaneously to operate it.

A nice bit about the Audio Transformer about 27 mins in.
15 Tonne, 180 Kilowatt RMS audio from 50Hz to 10Khz.
and there were 2 of them. That's one mother of an Audio amp.

I like the pics of the Generator sets for the filaments. 3 x 33V DC, 1500 amp generators just to run the filaments, these were driven by AC Motors as trying to rectify 4500 amps would have been pretty tricky back then
