Doepfer ribbon controller.

Postby jkhuri44 » Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:58 am

Does anyone have one of these...i wanna get one...

i've seen a few versions, 1 comes as just the ribbon, mounted on a plastic case, thin thing, and has a USB out...

i've also seen the same as above, but with a special box that decodes the info and lets u pick settings....

i'm not sure which is best..hopefully if someone here's used one, they can help?

Cheers.

Jamil.

I have heard varying reports. Some say it's steppy. Some say it's smooth.
One person didn't like the feel of the ribbon, if I remember properly.

I guess you need to think about the application. Do you want to just use a ribbon as
an alternate controller for various MIDI gear? Then you get the R2M (the one with the
magic box).

The other one I think is a pure CV controller - good with a miniMoog maybe or
as a Modular controller.

Kurzweil did a really good ribbon controller, not sure if it is still available. It was called the Expressionmate, and could also be divided into 3 zones.

I like the ribbon on the k2600
Its a great interface, assignable to loads of the k2600 functions

yeah, i was tihnking of getting one...for microtonal music performance...like arabic, and indian stuff...so ...being smooth is a huge requirement..

rachel, you're tinking what i am...re. the R2M, i was pretty sure the USB version would be slightly dodgy...thx for instilling some doubt, i wont go down that path :P

ultimately i want a cotinuum fingerboard...but at 5K...OUCH!!
