Ebay PPG

I would absolutely looooove to own that PPG 2.3 on Ebay.
But $6.5k.
I just can't imagine spending that much.
It could be worth it, but I bought most of my synths 10-15 years ago when prices were......reasonable.

I've always wanted a PPG 2.2/2.3 having borrowed a 2.3 for about 6 months once.

Hi there,

Chris...I sold my 2.3 in 2000 for $1200 (sob) to someone in Bris !
The one on ebay belongs to Greg Hutchings who was the PPG importer.

Someone must have bought the Waveterm B that was with it. I have written a few songs on that particular machine in the early 80's. Love it.

Hi there,

Steve..when I left Sydney in 1990, as I was going to the airport, I
dropped my Waveterm B in at Hutchings for repair.....never to be seen ever again !
(True Story !)

I'm tempted by the Wave that's on offer in the UK, but that's 6k UKP, still tempting though.

Was the Wave ever finished?

By the way, looks like another PPG item in the background of a pic on that Ebay ad - but it isn't listed.

Hi there,

Chris...Wave was definitely finished..I think there were around 70 made.

Ask Greg Hutchings...he knows everything about PPG stuff.

To the best of my knowledge I'd agree with that.

Just that I had two friends who owned Wave's in the UK (earlier this decade), and both sold them with a small part of frustration at the operating system.
Having said that, the biggest reason was the amount of money they both had tied up in the synth, balanced against the results they were getting.
They both said it was a fantastic machine in the end, just not worth multiple thousands to them.

Hi there,

Chris...yeah...crash and lock...I see what you mean by finished.

ones ego.(maybe one day for me :)

One of those guys switched from The Wave to NI's Massive.

A PPG 2.3 at $6.5k is steep enough for me anyway. Too steep.

Chris, it's a Waldorf, of course the OS wasn't finished... :D

Sorry, I thought you meant physically.

I have serviced that Wave many times, it is very nice, but eventually the boards got to the point where they had to go back to Waldorf and that repair took years. A very complex machine, lots of clocks.
