I got the albums "NEU" and NEU'75" on vinyl (when they were originally released) and based on this I don't plan to see Neu perform. 8-x

Yeah - so many times that I have heard "I bought the album because it was cool" ( but did not understand the music or its relevance in time and its reaction against what shit music/art was going on at the time).......................
Hopefully coldplay will be touring soon............COOL!
No disrespect - we all have our tastes..........

on that note...Zeuhl music is the perfect example of this...

RIO or, better known as Rock in Opposition, is some serioulsy good shit...it's little known that a lot of unsung German's produced the prototypical mould out of which pink floyd was born...

Venue the zoo Brisbane

A modern 21st century Neu appeared on stage last night at the Zoo in Brisbane.

The night started with the electro rhythm of the inventor of glitch, 72 year old Dieter Moebius, who had all his custom devices hidden on a table !

The ever smiling Hans Lampe carried the motorik beat throughout the night on A high end Roland electronic kit .

And then there was Michael Rother , wearing his trademark black jeans and tshirt and black strat with 3 chrome covered humbuckers, standing in front of his table of devices.
A lot of the material was improvised and if one closed their eyes, one would think they were listening to some twenty something's making current electronica.
But what was the difference ?
The beautiful crystalline melodies that emanated from Rother's guitar... Every note chosen for melody, no guitar histrionics, and a superb sustained tone thanks to his plethora of looping devices ,delays and harmonizers.

A scattering of the melodies were familiar to these ears but the majority of the music was new and not playing on the
historic legacy of the band. Even a couple of tracks from the recently released Amon Guru album, Die Krautrock Explosion featuring Moebius and Lampe, we're given an airing .

The band played in front of a small (150) but enthusiastic audience and although the assembled contained a few of the over 50's set ( like myself!) the majority of the punters were under 25 proving that this is indeed music that transcends
age barriers and once again proves that the genesis of something that happened forty years ago can still be relevant to
the music of today.

PS I talked to Michael outside the Venue before the show ,where he was just standing by himself reading a Time Off...no pretensions of grandeur, just someone who has been bringing his little bit of magic to the world for over 40 years.
Of course I got the obligatory photo of Michael and I together . Ok ..tick that off the bucket list !
