I've had this Synth for ages, and love it's clean solid sound & the HP & BP filters are wicked..
The Filters are not squealers like everyone else.. they are 12db/octave, but that gives them a very unique and different flavour compared to most other synths out there.

I'm selling just because I don't have the space for a bunch of synths..

I just repaired it's external input (Dead op-amp) so you can use it's filter and envelope to process sounds.

It also has a threshold detect circuit, so that sounds can trigger it's envelope.. Kind cool for messing up drum loops etc.

When you say the filters aren't squealers, you mean they don't self-oscillate at all?

None of the CS series have self oscillating filters. (CS-10 uses the same VCO, waveshaper, VCF EG's and VCA's as the CS-80). I have never tried trimming one of the Yamaha/Mitsubishi filters into self oscillation, it may be possible.

Well my CS-01 filter sure squeals - I brought the internal trimmer out to a pot....

It's not a very "sweet" squeal admittedly - it can get pretty harsh if you're not careful.
Of course, these beasts are a different animal to the 5 and 10 etc

I've watched various YouTube videos of the CS5 and despite the arguably limited tools it offers, it's a really nice synth.
I wouldn't describe the filter as weak, but pretty versatile and nice sounding.
This is a great basic, hardware synth for someone. Great sound and easy to learn.

Does anyone know if its easy to mod my CS10 from 110v to 240V?
I dont suppose there is a internal switch to do this?

You can replace the internal transformer, a toroidal from Jaycar will be fine, you just need to drill a single hole in the bottom of the chassis for the bolt. Replace the mains cable with a 3 core lead and correctly connect the earth lead to the chassis, reduce the fuse value by 50 percent. Only other traps are to make sure that the synth's power switch is rated for 240V and that if there is a filter cap across the mains that it is also rated for at least that.

I haven't done an A/B comparison but I can tell you the CS01 uses a digital sound generator and not a VCO as in the CS5 & CS10. Yamaha call it a DTG (Digital Tone Generator). I can only imagine that it might sound a bit different.

Amazing. Someone got a classic (if rusty) monosynth for the price of an FX pedal. I have a mint CS-5 and CS-10, Guess I will be hanging onto them if they are worth so little. I have a CS-20 that I will likely be selling soon though.

They are the same, (5 and 10) just different envelope setups. Never had a CS-01 so not sure what they sound like.
