Thought there was one on ebay a little while ago that didn't sell. Surely you have one of everything by now tho? :)

There have been a few from Japan. I just didn't have the $$$ when they were listed.

I do have one of everything... Now I'm going for two of everything!

There's one in Bundaberg, fully reconditioned...guy was asking $2500.
Has been up on eBay three times so far.

I had one for a couple of years ...not sure they are worth $2500 ...but beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;-)

Cheers

$2200.00 - $2500.00 seems to be the going rate for them. They are pretty rare.

I like mine too much to be selling it at the moment. They are a synth that is capable of complex, shifting sounds that you can't get out of any other mono/duophonic synth outside of a modular.

There is something about the green Roland synths, I would find it hard to decide between them but for me I do prefer the SH-7 to the SH-5, even though it has one less LFO, no separate BPF and a softer VCF. For me the two full ADSR's + autobend, duophony, the peculiar oscillator sync and the powerful 5 band additive slider setup on VCO 1 square wave make the synth more interesting. What I really don't care for on the SH-7 (or SH-5) is the key action, I think that I will get in there soon with some piano felt and work on that. I also prefer the panel layout and the feel of the SH-2 style slider caps of the 7 over the 5. The gate/trigger option on the ADSR's make the duophony lots of fun and the ability to have portamento only in one direction is another great performance feature. There seems to be some disagreement on whether the filter of the SH-7 is 12dB or 24dB, to be honest I haven't looked at the schematic to see which it is.

They are hard to find in Australia, most have gone to Europe. In the '80's Australia was flooded with Roland gear due to Roland Australia being the first international branch of the company. Europe got relatively little Roland stuff, they saw more Korg gear, so they regard Roland as mere collectable than we do and most good vintage roland gear got sold to Europe when our dollar was low during the last 15 years. Ditto with Moog - A load of Moog stuff came to Australia in the 70's for some reason but was sold internationally when our dollar was in the 52-70 range.

Not as reliable as that benchmark for synthesizer reliability the Roland SH-2, but slightly more reliable than the SH-5 mostly due to it's sliders and particularly it's slide switches seeming to be less prone to tarnishing and clogging for some reason. The SH-7 is a machine that seems very tolerant of old capacitors, I had two in my shop and fully re-capped one of them and still heard no difference between them. Complete opposite of the Minimoog which really shines with new electros. Both the SH-5 and SH-7 are machines that really suffer when stored, more than most synths they are happiest when there is power running through them and they are being used. Can't recall if the SH-7 shares a particular quirk with the SH-5 who's power switch only switches the secondary side of the power supply, so if you turn the machine off with it's front panel switch the primary side of the supply stays energised.

Ive been using a SH5 a bit over the last few years.
Love running audio through it - bass lines etc. Sounds so good!
Id love a SH2 if I could get my hands on one....

I'd probably love SH2, SH5 or SH7.
I've owned a lot of Roland synths, but never had hands on with these green/grey SH models.
If they are now in the $2.5k bracket I possibly never will.

I don't think they're all that expensive - best to look to Japan?

For illustrative purposes only (I have nothing to do with the sale) there's an Sh-2 on ebay right now for $700

Unfortunately Dave - there's always one for sale when I don't have the spare cash... and when I do -zap- they disappear

How costly is shipping a bulky, heavy synth from japan though?

Some of the Japanese sellers include the shipping for free.

The last SH7 from japan was $2.5k with free shipping.

SH2's are cool and solid synths. I sold mine to fund an expensive purchase.. And sometimes when I hear it's sounds in other tracks, a little tear wells up in my eye.

The SH2 is the only SH (as far as i can tell) that has a 'Sine' wave... I wish more of these Rolands did - It sounds huge on bass sounds..

That Japanese seller usually re-caps and rebuilds the power supply and sells the items 100% functional which is a consideration on such old bits of gear...

SH2 BIN for $400 + $160 from Japan.

I think that's cheaper than I sold mine for (tho, mine had MIDI)
