SD Card/Floppy Drive replacement for Kurzweil K2500

Postby wez » Tue Feb 17, 2015 5:58 pm

I'm thinking of pulling my K2500 out of storage and I'm a bit nervous about the old internal HD - it's bound to fail sooner or later. Or of course it could last for years to come - I'm happy to keep using it, but I need a backup solution.

The last time I looked into SD card readers a few years ago, there didn't seem to be much available (or reliable) - so I'm wondering what the current situation is, ie which is the one to buy, where to get one etc.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this successfully (or not!) who could advise and talk me through it.

Cheers, Wez

Hi Wez,

I know what you mean, I have a K2600 and needed to load from some old floppies a few days back. I had my fingers crossed that the mechanism would last long enough to get the data in. By the sounds it was making, I think I was lucky to complete the load. I had a K2000 that had the floppy removed and an iomega zip drive put in its place (old tech nowadays too) but that worked great. I'll be interested to hear what you end up doing.

Umm hi Steve, you remember that you actually sold that K2000 to me right?!

The ZIP drive was actually really great, 100MB was plenty of storage, and I always had a backup at hand. I sold the K2000 to another turtlerocker when I bought the K2500, kinda wished I'd kept it... the 2500 (plus serious road case) is a beast to lug to gigs.

Anyway, I was looking into the HxC thingy, but have heard conflicting reports regarding compatibility/reliability/support etc... would love to hear some first-hand experiences.

Hahaha Wez, thanks for the memory jog, that's old age for you! It was the old K2000 sounds I was loading back into the K2600!

Hxc is a virtual floppy drive.. Same load and save speed as a 1.44mb floppy.

You can store thousands of floppy images on a SD card though.

100% reliability from my experience.
