Is there a new mic that might come close to sounding like an old D12?
I'm reluctant to buy a vintage D12 due to the possibility of it being abused.
Suggestions?
Cheers,
Bob.

I haven't found anything that sounds quite as good on kick if you want that particular 'D12' sound.
Mine looks like shit, but sounds incredible - take a chance on an old one, you'll know very quickly if it's not sounding right.

Ta mate. It's actually guitars that I like them on!
I had two; never should have sold them!
Cheers,
Bob.

An RE20 blended with a ribbon (SEr1, royer, AEA....) might get what you're after
fwiw I was surprised how good an RE320 was for the $s - big and airy

D12 on electric guitar? I'll have to try that.
I'll never sell mine if I can help it.
I agree the EV RE320 is very nice for the cost. It sounds a little more like an RE27 than it does an RE20. And nothing like a D12. Then again, a D112 sounds nothing like a D12 either. I wonder what the D12 VR sounds like?

A D12 on a Fender Super Champ is what I used on The Angels "Howling" album. One of my fave sounds!

Hi Bob,
I've got a D12VR you'd be welcome to borrow and try. I've never used it on a guitar amp but whatever works.

I've never used a real D12 so can't comment. I like the new VR version. Has some cool filters and is very useable. I'm too scared to put my U47 Fet in front of kick. This does a fine job. On a guitar amp, not sure...!!!

If the amp/speaker is already very "broad" in it's tone, ie. lots of bottoms and tops and mid-scooped, I would guess you won't like it, however, if the tone is more mid focussed, you may enjoy it. I know that most engineers speak of the bottom end of the D12E, but I also like the "airy" bit in its highs.
All IMO, of course.
