Telephone line into mixer - options?

Postby Drumstruck » Mon Aug 27, 2012 6:00 pm

Howdy,

Wondering what options all are using to get telephony into your mix desk?

One of these is about 300 quid..... does anyone know any (cheaper :-)) alternatives?

I bought one of these from a local company for $99.

http://www.technologyten.com/products-phonelink.htm

It works OK, but level is low and is a bit noisy. Mini-jack out so have to use adapters to get into a preamp.
That one in your link looks much better, with balanced XLR, but a lot more expensive.
Check out some of the other products in my link.

thanks Blair - noise is an issue that appears to be related to not balancing the signal properly - a biggie in telephony apparently - some good details in the link below - interesting to read that it runs of -48v .......

There are some Studer Hybrids on Ebay under $100

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Studer-broadcast-telephone-hybrid-mixer-panel-console-system-1-918-106-/300770848622?pt=AU_Electronics_Radio_Equipment&hash=item460756ef6e
These are very good analogue hybrids with XLR I/O
If you need a manual you can download from Studer's FTP site or I have spare Hard copies.
Don't use a cheap coupler, you're just wasting your money.
Modern Digital Hybrids (Like we use here) e.g. Comrex DH-20 are around $3.5K each
But they sound good but
The Analogue studers sound pretty good too

Would you believe that snakes only come in big plastic bags now (as far as I can find)????????

Do you prefer Killer Pythons or regular Allens Snakes Alive?

When we are talking kgs of snakes
I think the actual type is arbitrary :)
