Looking at a Korg M1 for a mate at the moment, i remember having to learn how to program the patches at school, but its pretty much slipped from my brain now.
Any opinions? i know they are kind of a classic..
I specifically wanted to know whether anyone has heard, or dialled up a useable wurly/organ/hammond/rhodes sound on one before?
cheers, todd.

Todd,
Our keybaord player in my band uses an M1 in conjunction with a Korg external sound module (not sure what model though) - he currently uses the external module for his Hammond/organ sounds.
However, he's just bought the new BX-3 (which will be unveiled at our next rehearsal) ;-}
I can ask him about M1 patches if you like..

There should be heaps of resources out there for the Korg M1
http://au.groups.yahoo.com/search?query=korg+m1
There is a Yahoo group just for M1 patches.
(You will have to join to get at the files)
Even here..
http://www.vintagesynth.com/korg/m1.php
There is a handful of banks for the M1. You will need a simple application for your computer (Midiox for PC) to upload the sysex files to your M1.
Regards
Mike

Hi there,
I've had a couple of M1's over the years and it was the sole keyboard i was using in a few bands...so there should be reasonable sounds on there.
Single program 41(47 ?) seems to ring a bell for a usable organ.
Cheers

Hey Todd, I'll call Shane today and ask him when I get a chance.. the manual is a good starting place though - I did see a copy online at one of the aboveposted links..
Our keyboard player called me last night to say he had just picked up his new Korg BX-3 - so all organ and hammond sounds will be from the BX-3..
M1 will be relegated to piano/strings/synth stuff now..
Aapparently its got every sound from Hammond since the 30's up until the late 70's.. A wide palette I'd say!!
Can t wait to hear this thing at next rehearsal!! Yeah baby!!

Do you happen to know if the patches work with the M1 plugin (Korg Digital Series) as well??
Looks like its can - see last paragraph here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korg_M1
I know it works on the plugin version of the wavestation
