this is great

but where do you get the cds from and how much are they

"specially coated discs" in computer land sounds like economic extortion

Yes thought the same as well.
Then if this does not take off you will be left looking for media which you cannot find or costs big $'s

I think it would be cool.
I want to get the next lot of blank CD's with the studio logo on them.
Think worth the extra $'s myself

yeah we sell these things where i work, you do need to buy special media for them but if it takes off with enough people the media price wouldn't be too crazy... can't remember the price its more than a standard spindle of discs but not hugely overpriced..

Remember, although discs are read from the underside your data is _just_ beneath the top surface ;) So you'll want them white washed then screen printed to be safe. That may be the "special coating" although we never had success with the ceramic ones in terms of error rates.

But you should be ok with screenprinting most blank (silver faced) media if it proves is working with your s'ware/burner/firmware & burn speed. Eg, SADiE allows certain burn speeds that a burner & media may well not be happy with at all. 'Master grade' media is optimised for slower burn speeds and will generally give you much lower error rates (think akin to film sensitivity).

Hey Lads,

Good to be Back.

Don't know if any of you has actually used a lightscribe drive....

but it takes 45 minutes to burn an image on a disc.

Nuff said.

Smash.

hiya smash - are you how i think you are?

yeah - for demo's i use a canon which has a real handy cd printer attachment. comes out looking good. good enough for the talent to pass out.

but last batch of cdr's i bought were silver-topped, not white-topped. so the silver shows through. cool effect for some, but wont work for all print jobs.

He just uses that toxic ink in his printer and gets the" talent" to check the printing in a confined space! javascript:emoticon('8)')
