Yamaha CS-15 for $400 ???
Hey Synth Freeks
A mate of mine has offered me a Yamaha CS-15 for $400
I thought it was really cheap - Is this a steal?
Ive used the CS10 before and love the sound - especially for bass sounds and short glitch type percussive sounds
I also thought that in my (vague) memory they have audio input - is this so?

Well - I got it anyway - Is there a midi input mod for these?
And if so - who would do this in Australia?

Kenton UK make a retrofit midi connection for the Yamaha CS 15. They have been making stuff like this for 20+ years.
But you probable will need someone that knows what they are doing to install it
I, like everyone else here, even though we don't know you feel terrible that you have had to call it a day with your studio.
Good luck

Thank you Richard for your thoughts.....
Maybe it be better to do a midi to CV box - instead of the Kenton? That way if I get another old synth, I can use this CV / midi box on other analogue synth's
If so - who makes the best midi to CV box these days?
$400 is this an OK price ?

CS-15 is a pretty cool synth. dual signal path & multimode filters.
you can have one osc being bandpass filtered pretty extremely, while another is mixed in to provide a solid low end.
Overall sound is a bit weak, IMO, but the dual signal path makes up for it I think. And hey - it's a break from roland and korg and moog..
I'd expect one in OK condition to sell for around $650ish.

Synhouse midi jack II would be my way of midi'ing it up.
If you want Chris, I'll do it for you.
That would give it basic note on / note off reception.
But it would be a slick and tidy install and return to normal 'play it from it's own keyboard' operation at the press of a button.

That's a good deal. Make sure it works though, they are tricky to get your head around if you are used to Roland synths or ARP's or Moogs. Custom chips in there are pretty reliable but basically unobtainable.

Hi there,
I have a feeling that some Yamaha synths are NOT 1 volt per octave !
(not sure about CS 15)
cheers

Yep, Yamaha & Most Korg stuff all Hz/Volts.. not so compatible with Moog & Roland & others 1v/octave.
(Also Yamaha & most korg is S-Trig for triggers, but thats a bit easier to change)
