Korg MS20 Settings Help

Postby rafu1210 » Sun Mar 24, 2013 5:20 pm

Hi, I'm trying to recreate a sound on my (original) MS20. Basically I need the pitch and LPF to have an attack curve but not the volume.

I've got the EG1 controlling pitch via the EG1/EXT knob and the EG1 Attack time knob,

And I've got the EG2 controlling the LPF via the Cutoff frequency modulation "EG2/EXT" Knob, but I want to know if theres a way to have a filter envelope without the volume envelope.

Is there a patch bay setting so that the VCOs bypass EG2? Something along the lines of trigger out directly into the VCO or something...?

Also, another thing that I'd like to be able to do is have the option of the pitch descending instead of ascending when its controlled by EG1 attack....

Hopefully this isn't too confusing! Thanks in advance.

Are you asking whether the HADSR envelope generator can be disconnected from the VCA?

Yeah, disconnected or bypassed... I just want an LPF attack curve without a volume attack curve, so, "note on" immediately but with a filter sweep ...although ideally i'd want a slow (volume) release on the note also.....

Or if there was a way to have both pitch and LPF patched to EG1, that should work as well.

Thanks.

I dont have experience with the MS20.
A lot of old monosynths from this time allowed you to switch the VCA from envelope to "gate", giving you full volume while the key was pressed, independent of what the ADSR was doing.
Looking at a picture of the front panel, the MS20 doesn't seem to sport a "gate out" or similar. However maybe you could fudge this if you had an external source of 5 volts that could be synced to your note-on messages, or maybe try patching the trigger into your VCA CV or Initial Gain jacks.
I'm looking forward to getting a miniMS20 so I can play these games....

Ok I think I've sort of got the sound I was trying to get... sort of, not perfect....

My next question is, is there a patch for a sustain pedal?
