Cymbal types
I know this is about RECORDING drums but I want see what type cymbals people have found to record well. We have acquired a Pearl Masters for the studio, which sounds awesome. I would like to eventually get some more cymbals for it so I'm hoping the drummers can chime in.

Checkout local (Australian) cymbal maker Craig Lauritsen (in Adelaide).
imo Craig makes the best cymbals I've heard

Re: Cymbal types
On the more commercial cymbal front - I use dark thin crashes, that are less loud and harsh sounding, and thicker but dark rides and hi-hats, as they have the percussive stick sound that cuts through modern mixes - without being loud.
Loud cymbals are the bane of any recording engineer/producer.
All the cymbal companies make superb cymbals matching what I've suggested above.
Zildjian - the K Dark line, and Armand series.
Sabian - the HHX series.
Paiste and Istanbul Agop also make great (darker) studio cymbals. generally look for the jazzier lines in their catalogues.

Re: Cymbal types
the dream vintage bliss range is pretty good, great for the money.
can't get over the k custom dark dry ride though! What a cymbal. Stupidly long name, but great ride.
