Vinyl mastering... what the heck are side splits?

I have seen the term thrown around a few times... but never actually knew what it meant.

Isn't it just the point where to total program is broken into 2 sides? Side1 and Side 2...
I could be wrong, i haven't released a vinyl for 10 years.

lots of bands do a band x on the A side
band y on the b side

split sides release

or in context its just the track list of the a side and the b side just like you thought

Thanks gents, I figured it was most likely just the side a & side b audio.
I think I shall fight of the recording industry doomsday occurring in the other part of the forum by writing a music lingo dictionary. \:D/
