working in singapore

Postby gigpiglet » Wed Mar 12, 2014 11:46 am

i am doing some work on a festival in singapore at the moment
i thought the production levels (of the city in general) are worth noting
its about 4 million people (so very similar to sydney - unlike trying to compare to london or LA or tokyo) and every PA in every room I've been in has been immaculate.
multiple production companies, but nearly exclusively D&B and Digico (SD7 everywhere!)

oh - and the food is awesome too… ;-)

The big question is...Have you been down to the long bar at Raffles for a Singapore sling?

I spent some time working at a studio in Singapore. Everything there is impressive. Get to Lau pa sat for the best hawker food. Marina Bay Sands was just being finished when i was there, missed checking out the rooftop pool.
Little India is awesome if you like Indian food. Really want to go back soon.
Stay out of Orchard Towers...
Hah.

Have fun.

I love working in Singapore, I'm sure you're sorted but let me know if you want food tips. I've spent a bit of time there for work and in transit. Get out into the burbs if you can.

I worked in Malaysia just across the bridge from Singapore in about 2002 and was a little scared at the level of production there.
It seemed that most cables, power and audio were unterminated with no XLR or Plugs attached.
They would be terminated insitu as needed, crazy shit.
I was with a touring band just doing FOH but Chris Kennedy from NORWEST was the audio rep for the event company and he wasn't having much fun with this local way of working.

Hopefully it's changed for the better like Singapore.

Food was awesome too.
