I have had ntg2 for years and it has served me well. It mainly gets used for recording effects or field recording, not much use for dialogue, thou it has gotten me out of bind a few times. One of the best feature is that it can run on batteries, which if I am using a small recorder is really important.

I have also used the ntg3's a bit. They have a better reach than the ntg2 and better off access rejection, but when I trailed them I didn't find them that big of improvement to trade out the ntg2 (at least for what I use it for).

The guy who I borrowed the 3's off uses them for film/ad location stuff and quite likes them, and but his faviorite application for them is as a A/B pair for micing theatre stages when doing video recordings and archives.

With all that said neither of them are my go to for voice, but my choice for that is a major price jump. The ntg2 is basicly the stuntman of my location rig when I need hyper directional stuff. It has even ended up as a snare mic once or twice. If and when it final dies, I would replace it with the same.
