PCB Grinder Symmetrical FET
Just finished up this build. Great little project. Tried out a new front panel method too. I think it looks quite smart!
Sounds great!

Looks great Nick, awesome job!
I love those RCA knobs, nothing looks DIY more to me than the bog standard moog ones.
Care to share more about your front panel method?

Re: PCB Grinder Symmetrical FET
Hey come on now, I use those bog standard moog ones all the time Haha!
So with the front panels I've just been having a trophy shop make them for me. It's like an engraved plastic product they supply. It kind of looks like how universal audio do it but the silkscreen wont rub off like theirs, ha! It's pretty cost effective ($20.00 for this project) and looks good. The panels are just held on by the nuts on the pots/switches.

Beautiful job Nick, very impressive.
If it sounds half as good as it looks then you're onto a winner.
Nice work.

ha I know, that's the problem everyone uses 'em!
Oh wow only 20 bucks for that panel? That looks great too especially for that kind of money, I think I've seen that kind of thing on door signs etc, is it CNC engraved do you know?
Looks really sharp man, good work

Hi Nick
That project looks really good.
I'm interested in the trophy shop place you use and/or the name of that plastic product that is used.
I have an amp project I'd like to have a nice front panel.
Thanks
Gian

Yeah you're thinking of the right material. You see it all the time in silver and black on signs. It is lazer engraved I believe.

Re: PCB Grinder Symmetrical FET
G'day Paul,
I bought them from here: https://www.don-audio.com/Bakelite-Knob ... -RCA-black
When they arrived I realised they were manufactured by Sato Parts (http://www.satopartsusa.com/prod_detail ... tic%20Knob)
It's weird, Don Audio stock the 1/4" shaft version AND the 6mm one, whereas Sato Parts only seem to sell the 6mm one even though it would appear Don Audio are are getting their's from Sato.
Hope that helps!

^ Pretty sure Don Audio drill the 6mm ones to 6.35 (i.e. 1/4")

Oh right, that makes sense. He must have a great setup for that, they were clean as a whistle!

Yeah an accurate milling machine would be the tool for the job, probably not something that should be attempted with a Bunnings handdrill

Re: PCB Grinder Symmetrical FET
Nick, it looks great, I like it so much I ordered a pcb for myself to build plus a few others units as well. Also are the 2 meters linked or do they meter left & right seperately?

Re: PCB Grinder Symmetrical FET
No probably not!
I've had mixed success with a good vice and bench drill press but never much fun!

Re: PCB Grinder Symmetrical FET
Thanks Andy!
So the compressor itself is permanently stereo linked so the meters move together in GR mode, BUT in VU mode they are separate.

Just doing some research for anyone that is interested, the laminated plastic for the front panel is called Traffolyte
