Help with Midas Venice F32

Postby bangaroo » Tue Jan 05, 2016 11:53 am

Hi all,
does anyone have any suggestions/recomendations for tech help regarding a Midas Venice f32 in Sydney?
I suspect the FW board is the culprit but the whole board is showing flashing lights when powered up atm.
It was bought 2nd hand so warranty is not available.
Cheers,
Rob

I'm thinking that the desk may be stuck in a startup/initiation loop of some sort.
Does anyone know if the Midas Venice f series desk has a reset? - internal or pcb switch or the like?

I'm waiting for a reply from Music Group but I suspect they wont provide any technical information.

Cheers,
Rob

It's an analog console, I would be checking the power supply rails if all of the lights are on.

Thanks Steve,
I'll look at the power rails, do you know if the ps is a known issue with these boards?

Well....
firstly a huge raps to Music Group in supplying a new fw board.
I ordered and paid for it over the phone from the UK on Thursday eve and it arrived yesterday!
What a an amazing world, I've had deliveries from Melb take 2 weeks.

Having said that, I installed the board last night and found no difference with the desk. Your advice regarding the power rails may well be correct and checking the PS will be this evenings task.It may just be a coincidence that a problem occured while using fw...
MG were not forthcoming with tech support or schematics so if there's nothing obviously wrong with the PS I guess it will be off to an authorised repair centre for what will no doubt be an expensive once-over.

The fw board incidentally is quite busy and seems to contain power distribution, ribbon cable connectivity, adda i/o as well as the fw circuitry.

I'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers,
Rob

The power supply is linear by the looks, rails are +16, -16, +48, +12.

Thanks Steve,
where did you find the voltage info? Music Group & Google haven't been much help with tech info.

Righto -
The new power supply sorted the board, it's now back to working order.
Overall excellent sales and delivery from the Music Group but no tech support at all which I guess is just how they choose to do business.

For those interested, the power supply is switch mode and the output voltages are:
+18, -18, +5, +3.3, +48
Steve, this the Venice F32 and so is likely different from the non firewire version (if that's what you have). The PS is labled for use on Venice F series only.

I purchased a shiny new but expensive fw card in the process and have decided to keep it as the fw connector is heaps better than the original. Having said that and having taken the board out it is an easy job to retighten the fw connector by squeezing the outer shell in on itself to provide a close fit. I'd advise doing this if the connector is loose.
Cheers & thanks to those who've offered help,
Rob

Great news, well done! I had better go check my schematics, maybe I was looking at the old console, it has a linear supply.
