I recently got a nice 16 track MCI 2inch machine in the studio I've been working from,. Machine has been setup and biased, new roll of tape etc and I was wondering what the pro's and con's of using it for capturing the mixies off the desk on digital recordings.
I've done some tests before it was set up, just running existing mixing to it and capturing it at both 15ips and 30ips..
I much preferred the sound at 30 with the top end.
Is there any issues with using it as a (glorified) 2 track capture machine?
thoughts, ideas and criticisms welcome

Hey, if it sounds good then it is good. As an aside though, if you want to reduce tape noise, record the two track to multiple tracks on the 24t, you'll get better s/n.

no reason not to it as two track
don't use the edge tracks ( 1 and 16 )
and you will get better s/n if you slate multiple tracks BUT the top end could get screwy when tracks recombine because of timing / phase variation
higher speed is better top end, worse bottom end
and visa versa
