CD authoring software
Ok hivemind, what are people using to author CDs with now? I've used waveburner for years but it's getting less reliable. What do you use and what do you recommend?

You know it well Myles. Yes, it's a bit clunky and file management is confusing, but I've never had a bad burn from it.
Always Redbook spec.
Cheers, Paul

Re: CD authoring software
Just to add to the conversation
Most of my clients DONT EVEN OWN a cd player !!
Its a bizzare time we are making cds for people without cd players
Vinyl for people without turntables
Itunes online masters for people who dont buy music on itunes they just stream spotify
.
And nothing is full resolution !
I still use sadie , its still a $2.5 k spend .
Makes all those pesky masters in formats that nobody owns a player for !

Re: CD authoring software
i had this exact conversation (though at the consumer level) with some big record execs at red eye records on sunday rick.
we where there for a paul dempsy instore, (i was mixing) and of course the conversation turned to what people where actually buying, and exactly what you have said above, buying formats that they dont even play!
vinyl coming with download codes etc
what a funny time!

Re: CD authoring software
Yep, it bothers me to burn CDs that just go into landfill. We still use them at PBS for our library copies of live to air recordings , and we still have cd players in our on air studios. Eventually it will all be from a server, but that's gonna take a loooong time for us.
The amount of promo cds that come in to the station and don't get picked up by announcers is shocking. So many dreams, so many hours, so much creativity, so much money, all going straight to the recyclers.
It gives me the shits.
I don't burn CDs for clients at my studio. I give them the files on a drive of some sort. They can burn their own from there if they want.
I love vinyl, but it sure doesn't sound any better. Just more fun to unwrap and stare at while you enjoy all the audio artefacts....
Cheers,
Paul

Triumph from audiofile engineering is pretty good

On a related note - what are you all using to listen to CD's?
My player bit the dust and my new laptop has no CD drive.

Re: CD authoring software
I recently got all my records (1000) out of storage (long story) and I've been playing and finding lots of gems.
I have a sony CD player still going strong that I bought for a 180bucks new in 97.
funny thing I've noticed is not playing vinyl since around 2001, my ears had become accustomed to the sound of digital and mp3's, and when I first set up the turntable, I couldnt get my head around the sound of vinyl, now I can't stand the sound of mp3's, even lame ripped 320.
I still like some CD's though.

I use Triumph from Audiofile too (US$79) (and Myriad for MP3's / format conversions).
Funny - I just bought a new CD player - and a new turntable !! - Its nice to be behind the times!
Dave - I bought a Cambridge Audio Topaz CD10 - nice sounding CD player - good D to A.
Almost nobody is asking me for CD masters anymore - its vinyl or digital download

Thanks Chris - I'll check out the cambridge.
The other contender seems to be a Ta@#$% 'pro' unit as they look built like a tank.

Re: CD authoring software
I still use my Sadie, but its a Plextor SCSI device and has been acting up lately. On my last project, I bounced the mix to a .wav file, burnt it onto a CDRom and then uploaded it to Presonus Studio One. Created a project and dropped the 4 tracks. Then burnt a master CD. Took it to my CD duplicator and made 50 copies overnight unattended.

I use Samplitude or Sequoia, pretty sweet programs in my opinion. Have only burnt 3 discs in the last 4 years on my windows 2000 SP2 machine, still going strong.
Might be mixing an album soon too, first in 7 years.
