conversion to transformer-balanced in/out?

so i've got two four band parametric eq's. Jands JP4's. yeah i know, pretty agricultural.

currently in/out is unbalanced.
what trannies should i get to run it transformer balanced in/out? so +4 balanced>-10unbalanced / -10unbalanced>+4 balanced.
and flying leads would be better than pcb mount.
i think some trannies could be all these units needs to give them a bit of X.

i've got a few bits and bobs laying around, but i doubt anything i have would suit.

i haven't done any shopping on this myself yet - just seeking thoghts.

yep you need gain shifting and balancing. JLM dINgO with or without the JLM111DC output transformer will do all this.

however you are certain that the units are -10 operating level?

A lot of people get confused between levels and balancing. Unbalanced on it's own doesn't say anything about operating level and visa versa

i understand why the dingoe, but i'm really hoping for a passive solution. why? because!

i'll check the levels soo, but if it were simply balanced > unbal / unbal > bal, then would a simple trannie work?

You could use a passive DI for unbalanced to balanced.

indeed if the unit is unbalanced in and out and operates at a -10dBu operating level, then this is an ideal candidate for applying our new Missing Link.

read the operation sheet to get your head around it's operation, but in essence it is a perfect device for interfacing instrument and domestic level unbalanced equipment to balanced +4 setups. And you get a DI and reamp to boot.

if you find out that you just need line in line out trannies, ie unity gain
i have boxes of them - i just about cannot give them away :)

send me $50 and a yellow express bag and i will send you ( or anybody )
a stereo set of really high quality high headroom

australian made nos transformers hell i will even chuck a few more in if you want them .

i have at least 100 they work really well , NOS australian made ASTOR - from the 60 / 70s
i should have some sowters somewhere as well as well but people are keener to pay a bit more money for them
( dunno why the astors are as good probably better.)

rick - the last grab-bag of trannies i got off you were great - the astor green-cans are very promising (currently using as output trannies on a pair of JLM BA's), and you can expect an self-addressed envelope on its way to you shortly.
i'll be after four at least - more if that's how you're feeling on the day.
you might as well start gathering up the culprits now.
(PM me your preferred postage address)

if the cans dont get a gurnsey on this, then they'll get a run on the next project, or the one after that . . .

i know it's cutting a purse from a sows ear, but i think the balancing trannies will gives these eq's some much needed mojo.

rob - i hear you on the missing link. but the ideal right now is to hard-mount something in the boxes, as i wont use them without the balanced in/out. that's why an external DI isnt what i'm after either.

Hi Rick Could I grab a set of trannies too? I've got a deane jensen eq needing some love in the racking department. thats transformers cause I'm straight no chaser...

Just wanted to chip in as well..I got some transformers off Rick a while ago to sort out balancing the outputs on a desk and used the rest on some other bits that needed them. They've worked out fantasticly for my applications. Might have to get so more soon.
